VINTAGE ZIPPER WORK
My zipper jewelry began as an exploration of alternative materials while studying jewelry design at the Corcoran College of Art and Design. As I continue to work in this medium I aim to bridge a gap between alternative and classic jewelry by using zippers, a non-traditional and edgy material, to create jewelry that is conventional in shape and style. My use of vintage zippers stems from an effort to recycle and reuse, and also to connect to the beauty of using items that have been worn, used, and cherished by others. Because I use vintage materials no two pieces of jewelry will ever be alike. Each vintage zipper work is truly a unique piece of wearable art.
METALWORK
My metalwork, much like my vintage zipper jewelry, is characterized by texture, repetition, pattern, and color. Some of my favorite processes for achieving my design aesthetic include roll-printing vintage lace into metals, applying granulation and beaded wire edging, repeating shapes on various scales, and incorporating precious and semi-precious gemstones.
